Nail Queens for 2012 announced

TOKYO — The latest end-of-year awards, “Nail Queens 2012,” were announced this week at the Nail Expo held at Tokyo Big Sight. The honor is given by the Japan Nailist Association to celebrities with the best nail art.

This year’s winners are AKB48 singer Mariko Shinoda, 26, who presented her “winter nails” decorated with fur and snow. “Usually, I cannot do my nails because I am working but today I spoiled myself,” she said. “Among AKB48, Haruna Kojima is the expert. She often teaches me ‘a la mode’ nail art.”

Other honorees are Chiaki Kuriyama, 28, in the actress category; model Rola, 22, in the “talent” category; and Mika Ninagawa, 40, in the culture category. Actress-singer Mari Natsuki, 60, received a special award. In the men’s category, this year’s “Nail King” is actor Gota Watabe, 26.
